If you've been thinking about booking a boudoir session in Minneapolis but aren't sure what to expect, you're not alone. Most of our clients tell us the same thing when they walk through the door: "I almost didn't come." The nerves are real, the uncertainty is real, and so is the transformation that happens by the end of the day!
This guide walks you through exactly what happens during a boudoir session at our NE Minneapolis studio. From your first phone call all the way to receiving your finished photos, there are no surprises or pressure. Simply the honest truth about what a boudoir experience looks like when it's done right.

Step 1: Your Complimentary Phone Consultation
Every boudoir journey at Tristynna Nygren Boudoir starts with a free phone consultation. This isn't a sales call, just a time for us to walk you through the experience and answer your questions! We'll talk about what brought you here, what you're hoping to feel, what you're nervous about, and what you want to walk away with.
This is also where we go over everything included in your session: professional hair and makeup, access to our client closet, posing guidance, and more. We'll find a date that works for you and begin the planning process from there.
What to do before your consultation: Jot down a few notes about your style, any outfits you love, and what made you interested in boudoir photography. The more we know about you, the better we can tailor your experience.
Step 2: Planning Your Minneapolis Boudoir Session
Once you're booked, the real fun begins. We'll send you a prep guide covering everything you need to know from what to bring to how to prep before your photoshoot day.
You do not need to bring anything if you don't want to. Our client closet is stocked with sizes XS through 3X and includes a wide variety of lingerie, bodysuits and robes. If you have a special piece such as your partner's tie, jersey, etc., bring it with! Those personal items often make for the best photos.
Minneapolis boudoir tip: Avoid trying new self-tanner or skincare products in the week before your session. Stick to what your skin knows and loves!

Step 3: Hair and Makeup. You're in Good Hands!
When you arrive at our NE Minneapolis studio, your session begins with professional hair and makeup (including lashes). This comes with every session, and it makes a bigger difference than most people expect.
Our hair and makeup artist knows exactly how to prep you for photography lighting as this is very different from everyday makeup. You'll look like yourself, only elevated. Natural, glowing, and camera ready.
This is also one of our favorite parts of the day because it's when clients start to relax. There's something about sitting in the chair, being pampered, chatting the nerves away. By the time hair and makeup is done, most women are ready and excited to shoot.
How long does it take? Typically 60–90 minutes depending on the look we're going for.
Step 4: The Boudoir Session Itself
Here's what most people are most nervous about, but let me reassure you, you do not need to know how to pose. You do not need to have any type of modeling experience. You do not need to feel confident walking in because it is literally our job to help you bring that out!
At Tristynna Nygren Boudoir, every single pose is guided. Tristynna will tell you exactly where to put your hands, how to angle your body, where to look, etc. The magic happens naturally from there. This is the part that always surprises me because 99% of my clients tell me theyre not photogenic. The photos on the back of my camera always say otherwise!
We'll move through multiple outfits and looks throughout the session, using a mix of our studio setups to create variety in your gallery. Sessions typically run 2–3 hours from start to finish.
A note on body image: We work with women of every size, shape, age, and background. Our client closet goes up to a 3X specifically because we believe every woman deserves to feel stunning in her photos. There is no ideal body type for boudoir. There is only yours, and it's more than enough.
Step 5: Your Photo Reveal
Seven to ten days after your session, we'll schedule your online photo reveal. This is when you see your finished, professionally edited images for the first time.
This part does sometimes cause tears, but all happy tears. The kind that come when you see yourself the way the people who love you see you every day.
This is also when you'll choose your products which vary from digital photos, albums, keepsake boxes, metal wall art, and more. All of our products are handcrafted and designed to last a lifetime. Payment plans are available ranging from 3 to 12 months, so cost doesn't have to be a barrier.
Step 6: Delivery
Your finished products are delivered directly to your door. No pickup required, no awkward lobby handoffs. Just a beautiful package arriving at your home, full of images that remind you of who you are and what you're worth.
